11 Advent Calendars you need to know about

I have to admit last year I got a bit moody about all the hype (and expenditure) around the new age advent calendar! I thought the idea of it was absurd and couldn’t believe how much was being charged and spent on these obscenely extravagant advent calendars. That was until someone at work reminded me that my mum does me a homemade advent calendar every year which includes presents… real life Christmas related presents, ranging from money to Christmas mugs and elf pyjamas, hmmm hadn’t really thought about that, probs because they weren’t packaged in the shape of an advent calendar, hmmm.

So I decided I better give you all a round-up of the new ‘thing’ speciality advent calendars and Jesus Christ I’m annoyed I didn’t think of it, because this market is going through the roof! Ps just FYI I would never, ever, ever spend this much on an advent calendar, even if I was rich, okay, if I was rich, I probably would (don’t judge me)

  1. Drinks of the Dram Gin Advent Calendar – £124.95 Master of Malt

Okay, I know I said I wouldn’t spend that much on an advent calendar but I really, really, really want this… look at it, it’s a thing of beauty. 24 Independent gins from around the world. I know it is meant to be a surprise but some of the delights you find behind the doors include: FEW breakfast gin and Yuletide Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company)

2. Jo Malone Advent Calendar – £300 Jo Malone

£300 of deliciousness. 24 mini perfumes and body lotions (and maybe a cheeky candle) to tantalise your senses. Yes £300 is absurd…. or is it? I just don’t know any more

3. Illchester Cheese Advent Calendar – £8 Asda (In store from 9th Nov)

I’ve seen publications and heard whispers about this wondrous, wondrous advent calendar. If this could be delivered to my door Dec 1st with some crackers, caramelised red onion chutney, some homemade pickled onions and some grapes, this gal will be one happy chappy. Illchester already make those selection bags (that you eat in one go) with delights such as applewood smoked, Jarlsberg and red Leicester and this is basically that, but on steroids.

4. ASOS Beauty Advent Calendar – £55 Asos

I knew ASOS would come up trumps, she always does. This calendar is  fraction of the price of some of beauty calendars but it seems reasonable for the items included. It doesn’t list the products on the item’s description but with the assistance of zoom and my beady eyes I picked out Cowshed, Nip + Fab and REN.

5. ASOS Male Grooming Advent Calendar – £55 Asos

Now if you want to treat the male in your life for advent, this looks like a pretty good bet, although I’m not male so I can’t be sure. Once again 24 delightful products by brands such as Elemis and Rituals.

6. Soap and Glory Advent Calendar – £40 Boots

The holy grail of mid priced products and I have to say I’m yet to find a product that doesn’t smell divine and does the job! They are renewed for their great priced Christmas Gift Sets, but this is a real delight of body and make-up products. **Accidentally clicks on link and buys**

7. Kikki.K Stationery Advent Calendar – £90 Selfridges

OH MY GOD A STATIONERY ADVENT CALENDAR – scuze me whilst I pick up my drool from the floor. Yes £90 is A LOT of money, but look its a black and gold theme and has candles and notebook and pens and Oh my god (yes I know I’ve said it twice) I’m in love.Kikki-K8. 12 Days of Tropic Advent Calendar – £80 Tropic Skincare

Ever since Susan Ma won the Apprentice in 2011 (6 years ago whaaaaa??) her skincare range has taken the world by storm and if you haven’t heard of it, where have you been? A luxury advent with some little sample pots and some full-sized products too!

9. Cat Advent Calendar or Dog Advent Calendar – £25 Selfridges

Now all I’m going to say is you can’t really let your favourite fur ball open your advent and their just sitting there all sad…. voila, all your problems solved!

10. Johnny Loves Rosie Jewellery Advent Calendar – £55 Asos

The concept of this is peachy – a selection of gold and silver toned jewellery, the basis is a couple of necklaces and a couple of bracelets and then doors reveal charms to put on said necklaces and bracelets, clever huh?! You also get a few pairs of earring thrown in for good measure too.

11. Liberty of London Advent Calendar – £300  Liberty of London

I wouldn’t have been true to myself if I didn’t;t include this absolute soul mate of mine. I adore Liberty and this is perfection in every way, from the Liberty London design and gold edging to the products – 15 full-sized and a Diptique candle too, GIMME. Is it ok to get a credit card to buy an advent calendar? Asking for a friend….

Or maybe, just maybe you could buy a £2 one from Asda…… just saying

I hope you enjoyed my round-up of advent calendars on offer this year. Have you seen any I’ve missed?

Is it bad that out of all of those the one I’m most tempted to buy is the dog one? I’ll spend loads on an advent calendar for my dog, but never that much for myself haha!
