Life Lessons: Expectations

Life Lessons: Expectations

This is in no way a full on bells and whistles blog post…. it’s just a bit of a daily scribble/journal entry so it’s short and sweet and may prompt me to do a few more of these in the future.

Today has been a bit of a meh day – I woke up at 6:30am, which is never a good look for me and makes me a right Moody Margaret, I couldn’t get into my front door for over 20 minutes, then I spent all day in meetings and felt like I actually achieved nothing….. apart from a banging crayfish sandwich and a free banana from work. Today I have felt pressure and stress and on top of it, expectation, which is shit. Often it’s someone you know who has that expectation on you and dependant on how much you like or love them, depends on how much you want to meet or exceed that expectation.

Sometimes you have to accept that everyone has different levels of expectation and if something is A-OK for you then it should be the same for others…. as long as it’s not something criminal (if someone expects you not to steal an pasty from Sainsbury’s, that expectation is pretty spot on.

Having unrealistic expectations of people with busy, lives, jobs or just a penchant for having a good time just makes them feel worse about the fact they feel substandard, it all adds to the worry and anxiety and negativity which ends up just having a party in your head where the music is so loud but its repeating the same song lyrics “you are not good enough”. So basically here is a hump day reminder to let you know that “you are enough, wholly and truly, completely and utterly”

Now go and have something wonderful for dinner, like fajitas or cheesy chips because I expect that from you….see what I did there

Word. You are enough. Do what makes you happy, be your best self. We can’t let our slender shoulders be burdened with others expectations, we are carrying ourselves, our dreams and goals on them…. 🙂
